  The Board is excited to announce the annual banquet has been finalized.

  The banquet will the held at the Ramada Airport Inn on February 28th, Social Hour with a cash bar will begin at 5:00 pm with Dinner and activities to follow.  The cost is $40 per person, children under 8 are $20.00.  Entrees are Roast Baron of Beef or Pasta Primavera (vegetarian) with Salad, starch, and dessert. (if anyone has special dietary requirements, please contact Doug Koenig at douglasakoenig@yahoo.com or 509-850-1839) .  Please be sure to register so we can get an accurate head count.

  If the attendees would like to set up a table of 10 for their group, they can contact Doug Koenig, and he will arrange it.  

  If you have not already renewed your 2026 dues, just a reminder that it is only $50 per family.

  Come run some single, double, or triple marking tests. Add honoring and a blind retrieve. For novice and experienced dogs (any breed) and handlers. Organizers will set up marks over varied terrain. Handlers can practice their holding blind and point-of-origin obedience. For those interested, NAHRA and HRC rules will be explained for the marking tests. Water retrieves will depend on water and air temperatures.

  The workshop focuses on working with entry level dogs. Key topics include training philosopy/expectations, obedience foundation, bird/line manners, delivery to hand, and managing sounds and distractions.  Discussion includes transition to home training and expectations for the first hunting or hunt test season. Attendees will leave understanding the critical importance of obedience for all retrieving tasks.

  The following day, SBDA is holding a training day at Espanola for you to bring your dog and start practicing what you learned. Rob Cochran will lead this field exercise.

  Please be sure to register online.  This event is limited to 30 dogs and once reached will be closed for registration.

  7:30 check-in and 8:00 am start time at Stahl Ranch, Deer Park.  
  Contact Carol Black or Paul Pommerening if you need directions.

  Pre-register on the SBDA website: your name, dog’s call name, and competition level: Junior or Open.  Head-to-head competition at two levels for a dog's ability to mark single retrieves.

  Junior Level – dog may be restrained at the line and must return to the line but are not required to deliver to hand, i.e., Started dogs.

  Open Level – dogs must be steady at the line with no restraint and deliver to hand, i.e., AKC Senior/Master, HRC Seasoned/Finished, NAHRA Intermediate/Senior dogs). All dogs will be graded on their marking ability and style.

  Every dog runs 6 single land marks. Scores will be posted after each series. No electric collars.

  Prizes are awarded at each competition level. There will be a Potluck BBQ Lunch; SBDA will provide meat. Please bring a dish to share (appetizers, salads, desserts, beverages). Please BYO water/beverages for yourself and your dogs.
